Ricky-Jade Jones, an attacker for Peterborough United who is reportedly a target for Johannes Hoff Thorup this month, has been cautioned against being pursued by Norwich City.

After 26 games, the Canaries are in eleventh place in the Championship, three points behind sixth-place West Bromwich Albion, and are currently in play-off contention.

It’s unclear where Norwich will end up this season because Thorup’s team has struggled with consistency this year.

Although Norwich has the second-best goals per game average in the division (1.7), they also need new attacking energy because top scorer Borja Sainz will be suspended for the next six games. As a result, they seem to be considering a move for Jones.

The interest Norwich City has shown in Ricky-Jade Jones of Peterborough United

According to Darren Witcoop’s most recent update, Norwich has made an inquiry for the quick forward despite fierce competition for his services.

After Cardiff City’s offer was rejected, Norwich is the “latest club” to have placed a bid. Football League World was the first to report the Bluebirds’ interest in the 22-year-old.

Jones is rumoured to have interest overseas as well. Bundesliga team Freiburg is thought to be an admirer, while Middlesbrough is said to be watching but won’t pursue a trade until top scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath departs the Riverside Stadium this month due to intense interest.

His future at Peterborough is still up in the air, though, as he is now approaching the last six months of his contract. If he leaves as a free agent, the club will be able to collect a sizeable, tribunal-determined sum for the forward because of his age.

The Posh forward, who can play on the wing or as a striker, beat players like Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies to become the quickest football player in the world in 2024. With 25 goals in all competitions over the past season and a half, Jones is renowned for his lightning-fast speed and has been a pretty prolific goal scorer for Posh.

However, Peterborough, who are presently sitting only two points above the third-tier drop zone, has only had six of those in league play this season.

Norwich City expressed prudence on Ricky-Jade Jones’ transfer interest and Peterborough United.

After Norwich showed interest, FLW asked Zeke Downes, our resident Canaries fan pundit, if a possible cut-price trade for Jones is the kind of move his team should be pursuing.

Zeke is wary of the significant jump from League One to the Championship, despite being heartened by Jones’ age and goal return over the past 18 months and expressing faith in the important decision-makers at Carrow Road.

“I definitely think that getting a player that’s homegrown will help us,” Zeke stated to FLW.

“Aside from being at a great age, he also has a decent amount of experience and plays well in an offensive position.

However, Peterborough is clearly a step down, and we’re not sure if he’ll be able to make the leap.

“Obviously, you don’t want to be filling a roster position with a player who can’t make that transition, but if it’s going to be a discounted deal, I wouldn’t say no.

Although I don’t know a much about him, he has a respectable (goal) return. I’m all for it if they believe he’s worth pursuing.”
