Rangers are reportedly close to finalizing the signing of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, according to journalist Chris Jack.

Writing for The Rangers Review on 16 January, Jack revealed that while the club’s primary focus is on signing a new defender—following Neraysho Kasanjwirjo’s injury—progress is being made in their pursuit of Cameron.

The 22-year-old midfielder is in the final months of his Dundee contract, making this transfer window the club’s last chance to secure a fee for his departure.

A promising addition for Rangers

Rangers are expected to be active in both incoming and outgoing transfers during the January window. However, with half the month gone, it’s surprising the club has yet to announce any new signings. Typically, Rangers move swiftly, with positive updates early in the window.

If Cameron joins, it will be interesting to see if Rangers negotiate a nominal fee to secure him immediately, rather than waiting for his contract to expire.

While adding a midfielder is a step forward, fans and manager Philippe Clement will likely hope for reinforcements in defense, especially in light of Kasanjwirjo’s absence. Additionally, another attacking option may be necessary if Cyriel Dessers departs this month.
