According to a rumour, Rangers are now in a strong position to sign a “magnificent” midfield player this month, and he might be available for a low price.
Rangers are interested in a midfielder.
The Gers are unlikely to win the Scottish Premiership this season, but Philippe Clement is already considering adding players to his team in order to increase their chances of winning the league title for the 56th time the following year.
The Light Blues are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Lyall Cameron of Dundee, who has drawn attention with his performances this season, and Clement is considering a few Scottish players to bolster his midfield.
Allan Campbell of Luton Town, who is presently on loan at Charlton Athletic, is another Scot that Rangers are interested in. It was recently announced that they will probably have to compete with Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibernian for his services.
According to a recent update on the Gers’ pursuit of Campbell, they are in a strong position to complete a deal this month because Luton would not obstruct him if a good offer was made.
Since the midfield player is not part of the Championship team’s plans and there is a sense that he would be eager to travel back to Scotland, the team would be willing to approve his departure for a low price.
After making an impression for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, the Glasgow-born virtuoso joined Luton for the 2021–22 season, but it looks like he might soon be playing north of the border once more.
At Ibrox, Campbell might rekindle his career.
The centre midfielder has had a difficult couple of years. He struggled for playing time when on loan at Millwall during the 2023–24 season before being sent to League One Charlton this season.
The former Luton player did, however, win a cap for Scotland when he was a regular starter for the Hatters, and because he is still only 26 years old, there is no reason why he cannot return to that skill level.
After the Scot gained a call-up to his national team, former Luton manager Nathan Jones was full of praise for him, saying: “He had a fantastic season, got better, got stronger.”
“He had to contend with what could’ve been a bad injury early on, but he recovered so quickly from that and was then just magnificent for us.”
Rangers are willing to take the chance, and Clement will be hoping that Campbell can rekindle his career at Ibrox, since he is expected to be available this month for a low price.
