To get more playing time, Macaulay Tait is planning to go west.
Macaulay Tait, a midfielder for Hearts, is the favourite to join Livingston on loan until the end of the current campaign. The 19-year-old has received interest from several Scottish clubs, but a move to West Lothian is nearing completion. The goal is to give Tait more senior football experience after he has recently struggled to get into games at Tynecastle Park.

The loan paperwork is currently being worked on and should be finished in the next days. Tait should be registered and eligible for Livingston’s matchup with Hamilton Academical this weekend in the Scottish Championship. Tait is a player that manager David Martindale believes could aid in the team’s push for promotion back to the Premiership.

The child is amenable to the transfer, and it should be verified by the weekend, unless there is an unforeseen delay. His departure does not mean that he is no longer part of Hearts’ first team ambitions. The team only wants him to play frequently and keep getting better before heading back to Riccarton this summer for preseason training.

In a £600,000 move, Australian defender Kye Rowles left Hearts earlier this month to join DC United, while striker Liam Boyce rejoined Derry City in his home state of Northern Ireland. Both of those actions were irreversible. Although Tait’s is only on loan, additional players might depart Tynecastle before the winter transfer window ends.

Due to their lack of popularity under head coach Neil Critchley, wingers Barrie McKay and Yutaro Oda are drawing interest from other clubs both domestically and beyond. English Football League clubs are also keeping an eye on midfielder Jorge Grant. While Oda has a deal with Hearts through the summer of 2026, McKay and Grant’s contracts expire at the end of the current campaign.

It seems unlikely that all three will go within the next week or so, but if a suitable offer is made, one or maybe two may be offered the opportunity to move on. Cammy Devlin, a midfielder for both English Championship team Portsmouth and Major League Soccer team New York City FC, is also being considered.
