Leeds United return to Championship action tonight as they host Norwich City at Elland Road, aiming to reclaim the top spot with a victory.

Sheffield United’s comeback win over Swansea on Tuesday saw them rise to the summit of the table, but three points for Leeds would immediately propel them back into first place.

Daniel Farke’s side will be brimming with confidence following their 3-0 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. A win tonight could see Leeds level on points with Burnley, while a Norwich victory would leave Leeds just two points ahead of Sunderland, showcasing how tight the race is at the top of the table.

This competitive atmosphere underscores the need for Leeds to explore options in the January transfer window, as they reportedly seek attacking reinforcements. The Whites are said to be eyeing a forward who could emulate Emi Buendia’s impact under Farke.

Buendia’s Influence Under Farke

Reports suggest Leeds are competing with La Liga clubs for a loan move for Aston Villa playmaker Emi Buendia, as Farke looks to reunite with the player he signed during his Norwich tenure in 2018. Buendia played a pivotal role in Norwich’s two Championship title-winning campaigns, delivering 23 goals and 28 assists across those seasons.

The 28-year-old demonstrated his ability to make a significant impact in the Championship under Farke, making him a potentially excellent addition to Leeds’ squad this month. However, if a deal for Buendia falls through, Farke could turn to other targets to fill that creative void.

Leeds Eye Burnley’s Mike Tresor

According to Belgian outlet Voetbal Nieuws, relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds are among several clubs interested in Burnley’s attacking midfielder Mike Tresor. The 25-year-old, who joined Burnley permanently from Genk last summer after a loan spell, has made just one appearance this season – in the FA Cup against Reading.

The report claims both Tresor and Burnley are open to parting ways, but no specific asking price has been disclosed. With Tresor’s proven quality, he could provide the attacking spark Leeds are seeking if they fail to land Buendia.
