Hearts have entered discussions regarding a potential contract for one of Kilmarnock’s standout players, with Derek McInnes addressing the speculation surrounding the player’s future amid interest from Hearts and other clubs.

The Jambos have been active in the January transfer window, with Sander Kartum becoming their fourth signing, following the arrivals of Elton Kabangu, Jamie McCart, and Michael Steinwender. The window also saw departures, including Liam Boyce and Kye Rowles.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, Hearts officials have held talks with Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong about a pre-contract agreement, as the 27-year-old’s contract expires this summer. While Armstrong has spoken with Hearts, he has yet to make a decision on his next move, leaving his future uncertain as interest continues to grow.

Addressing the situation, McInnes downplayed the chances of a January transfer ahead of Kilmarnock’s upcoming Premiership clash against Hearts at Tynecastle. He stated: “I love working with Danny and have since I arrived. I want that to continue. As far as I know, he hasn’t signed with anyone else, so there’s still a chance. I don’t see anything happening in January. Danny’s been a key player for us over the last few seasons, and we hope he’ll remain vital during the run-in this season.

“Managers have to accept that when players are out of contract, they may explore other opportunities. That’s normal. We’ve got several players in the same position, but all the focus seems to be on Danny, which isn’t fair. When a team like Kilmarnock finishes fourth in the league, there are reasons behind it, and Danny was a big part of that.”

Reflecting on Kilmarnock’s strong record at Tynecastle—where they’ve suffered just one defeat in their last 11 visits—McInnes added: “It’s strange how results at certain grounds play out that way. Tynecastle is a great environment to play in, and the players enjoy it. We know Hearts are a team that should be performing better and are finding form under their manager, but our approach remains the same. We’re highly motivated and expect to win.”
