Canaries legend Teemu Pukki has returned to his homeland, Finland, signing with top-tier side HJK Helsinki.

The 34-year-old had been playing for Minnesota United since departing Carrow Road in the summer of 2023, where he netted 14 goals and provided four assists during his stint in the MLS.

“I want to thank the club and the fans for the incredible memories,” said Pukki, who scored an impressive 87 goals in 198 league appearances for Norwich City after joining from Danish club Brøndby on a free transfer in 2018.

“Thank you to the club for allowing me the opportunity to return to Finland and join HJK. I wish the club and everyone connected to it all the best in the future.”

Pukki arrived in Helsinki on Wednesday and is set to travel to Turkey on Saturday to join HJK’s training camp in Antalya.

“I have fond memories of my time here [from August 2010 to August 2011],” he shared. “Even when I reflect on the biggest matches of my career, the home victory against Schalke still stands out. I’m excited to create new amazing memories together.”

Minnesota United’s chief soccer officer, Khaled El-Ahmad, expressed his gratitude for Pukki’s contributions. “I’d like to thank Teemu for his professionalism, work ethic, and goal-scoring efforts with Minnesota United.

“We had positive discussions where he shared his wish to play in Finland, closer to his family, while continuing his journey with the Finland national team. This transfer to HJK allows him to build on his footballing legacy in his home country. We wish him the best in this next chapter.”
