Keith Hackett has stated that Manchester United have to issue an apology letter after a Rangers employee seemed to be shoved during the festivities for their late Europa League victory.
During the Battle of Britain match at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes scored in injury time to give the Red Devils a thrilling 2-1 victory and break Rangers’ hearts.
TNT Sport’s video of the festivities showed what looked like Rasmus Hojlund pushing a Rangers physio.
In an exclusive interview with Ibrox News, Hackett expressed his confidence that the United players did not recognise him as they moved him aside.
The former FIFA referee and PGMOL boss does, however, believe that United should write Rangers to apologise over the situation.
“It’s possible that the Man United players were unaware of who they were pushing aside,” he stated.
It is regrettable, and I hope Manchester United will write to the Rangers coaching staff member to express their regret.
“I don’t think UEFA will do anything.”
Manchester United will not face UEFA sanctions over the Rangers incident.
To be fair, it does appear somewhat harmless when you watch the video again, although United would probably be wise to issue an apology as it was a bit pointless.
After such a dramatic high point, which felt unimaginably cruel to a Rangers team that had played so well, you can understand why emotions are running high.
Nevertheless, in order to comprehend Hackett’s perspective, you still need to be aware of your surroundings.
However, it seems likely that UEFA won’t step in any further and that everyone would be satisfied with a simple “sorry for what happened.”
