Referee Nick Walsh has left Willie Miller perplexed after failing to issue Luca Stephenson a yellow card for his late challenge on Rangers star Mohamed Diomande.
Even though the Englishman’s tackle was blatantly late, Walsh chose not to give him a yellow card, allowing the midfielder to take the Ivorian out after he went in for a late challenge.
Miller, a BBC pundit, discussed Stephenson’s tackle in a live broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland on January 26.
“It’s intriguing because Stevenson’s challenge on Diomande was definitely late,” Miller remarked.
“I know it’s early in the game, but it took the Rangers player out, and we used to say get your tackles in early, even if they weren’t timed perfectly.”
“But I’m shocked that it was only a warning; I thought he might have deserved a yellow card.”
At Tannadice, Rangers won the match 3-1.
Rangers must improve in their upcoming Scottish Premiership matches.
Many people were probably surprised by the fairly end-to-end nature of the Rangers vs. Dundee United match.
Even though Jim Goodwin’s team is just behind the Ibrox team in third place in the Scottish Premiership standings, it seems like they ought to have been able to end the match early on, particularly if they wanted to impress supporters.
For supporters of the Glasgow-based team, the 2024–25 season hasn’t been particularly noteworthy because they seem to be getting farther away from first-place Celtic every week.
Given how far apart the two teams are, it seems like some adjustments must be made at Ibrox so that Clement’s team can prepare for a stronger challenge the next season.
The future is uncertain, but if the Rangers don’t change their ways quickly, things might get worse.
