The Daily Record claims that when Rangers signed Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract, they may have to compensate Dundee with almost £400,000.
On February 3, The Record revealed that the two teams will try to settle on a cost of around £400,000 after the Gers stated Cameron will be joining for the remainder of the season after his Dundee contract expires.
The 22-year-old’s move will go to a tribunal if a sum cannot be agreed upon, although Dundee’s claims for compensation are undermined by the fact that their academy lacks “elite” designation.
The Dees would have received less than £400,000 if Cameron had left, but a tribunal might still be avoided provided they could reach an agreement with the Light Blues that included bonuses and add-ons.
Dundee might have been able to extract far more than £400,000 from the Light Blues if they had tried to rush things and make a deal to get Cameron to Ibrox right away.
However, unless they are severely criticized by a tribunal, the Ibrox administration might save more than six figures by postponing his move west until the summer, when he is officially a free agent.
The Gers went through a similar process last summer when they signed Connor Barron, who was 22 at the time, from Aberdeen on a free transfer. Barron has shown that the Bears can find value in domestic transfers throughout the Premiership with his performances for Philippe Clement’s team this season, and they will be hoping Cameron can make a similar impact.
Although it’s unclear if the Belgian can add any more players to his team before the winter transfer window closes, Cameron will be prepared to make an impression at Ibrox come summertime.
In other Rangers news, before the transfer window ends, the Bears may try again to sign a young player from the Premier League.
