Now that the winter transfer window is over, let’s examine the Celtic and Rangers deals that fell through.
Clubs will have to wait until the end of the season to look back on any deals they may have missed because the winter transfer window is now closed.
With a Deadline Day loan swoop for Jeffrey Schlupp, who joined Jota as the Hoops’ two new acquisitions this window, Celtic had a successful end to their window. The two Glasgow teams agreed on 10 departures between them, but Rangers only acquired one new player, Rafael Fernandes, on loan from Lille.
There were numerous other conversations that did not result with anything, as is typically the case with most transfer windows. Let’s examine some of the missing transactions that Rangers and Celtic were involved in within the past month.
During the January transfer window, Celtic sought to bolster their lineup with more firepower, but several of their deals fell through. Kelechi Iheanacho, a former Leicester City player, had a difficult time starting a loan move, and the Hoops’ interest in David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava also failed.

Kelechi Iheanacho, a former Leicester City player, had a difficult time starting a loan move, and the Hoops’ interest in David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava also failed.
Strelec may have to make a last-minute move elsewhere after Celtic reportedly thought the Slovakian team’s £8 million asking price was too high.
Ivan Kmotrik, general director of Slovan, has disclosed that there has been a lot of interest in the striker and that a completely fresh move may be imminent, despite Celtic’s hopes to maybe rekindle their interest in the summer.
According to The National, he stated, “I have to say that there is a huge explosion of interest around David, and the situation is changing from hour to hour.” Over the past two days, we have been inundated with offers. Nothing is finalized, but we are negotiating and talking about this issue. Thus, I am unable to predict the outcome at this time.
“The windows are still open in some countries. Clubs in many countries had very close negotiations, and the offers are simply too high for us to take a negative stance on them.”
Rangers Review reports that the Premier League team gave the midfielder to the Light Blues early in December, testing the waters over a possible short-term loan deal. Naturally, a move did not materialize, which may have been due to Chukwuemeka’s substantial salary package. Since the two parties fell silent, the 21-year-old has signed with Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season, and according to Kicker, there is a handsome option to buy clause in his contract.
Dortmund might move Chukwuemeka to Germany full-time in the summer, but only if they activate this costly provision. According to the German site, BVB spent less than €1 million (£831,500) to push the loan across the finish line, but a €35 million (£29 million) buy option was also included.
