With the transfer deadline approaching on Monday night, BRONDBY urged clubs to either pay up or stop talking as interest in their best player, Mathias Kvistgaarden, increased.
The in-form Danish striker was linked to Celtic, who are desperately looking for a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi after his £10 million move to French team Rennes the previous week. Brendan Rodgers has actually been keeping an eye on the 22-year-old forward since August 2023, just two months after he returned to Parkhead, but there hasn’t been a reported firm offer for the forward, who hasn’t yet received a full international cap from his nation.
Although Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen acknowledged that approaches had been made for Kvistgaarden, who is valued at £11 million, he did not name the teams vying for the forward.
Speaking to the local media outlet Tipsbladet, the club’s president acknowledged: “Yes, we declined offers, both tangible and intangible. We never strayed from our intention to keep him from being sold during this transfer window due to any numbers.
They weren’t good enough, but perhaps he and the club will decide when it’s time.
“We had every intention of keeping him for the remainder of the season. On the final and penultimate days of the transfer window, a lot of people have inquired about him.
However, we had a productive conversation about our shared goals with Kvistgaarden and his agency. He was supposed to perform for us in the spring, when we have a lot of important objectives to meet.
“Then, we must observe what transpires during the summer.”
Kvistgaarden’s contract with the team runs through June 2027. He has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 15 league appearances this season.
When the champs host Dundee today, Adam Idah will spearhead the attack for the third straight game without Kyogo.
In his last two games, the Republic of Ireland forward has scored three goals: one in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park and two in last week’s 4-2 Champions League loss to Aston Villa in the Midlands.
