As the 6-0 thumping came to an end, the men behind the mic of the Dark Blues’ own TV channel made fun of the number of home fans who left the stadium early, with empty seats showing up. One member of the team began the conversation by saying, “As soon as it hits that 80 minute mark on the clock, I don’t know if you can notice it.” Celtic fans were subjected to a “Subway Loyal” remark live on air by the rivals’ commentary team.

During the jibe, Celtic was leading by five goals when the ball landed at the feet of Nicolas Kuhn, who curled home another stunner for Brendan Rodgers’ team to bag a sixth goal from the home side. His partner yells, “It’s the Subway Loyal,” referring to the nickname given to supporters of rivals Rangers who leave the game early to catch the Subway home. The pair used the strike to try and justify their point by saying: “Surely you’d want to say and find action like that..”

Tony Docherty and his team lost 6-0 for the second time in a row, making it a night to forget on the field. After a protracted VAR review, Arne Engels opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Following Trevor Carson’s initial denial of the striker and Jota’s subsequent attempt, Adam Idah then crashed into the roof of the net in first half stoppage time.

After Jota’s inch-perfect cross, Daizen Maeda skillfully headed home a diving header at the back post to start the second half. A few seconds later, he produced a spectacular lobbed effort over the defenseless Carson. Like his teammate, Engels then scored his second goal from a distance before Kuhn’s stunning shot completed the victory.

From beginning to end, Boss Rodgers was thrilled with the champions’ performance. “The players were absolutely brilliant,” Brendan Rodgers remarked after the game, adding, “and the performance was right up there from minute one to the 93rd minute.”

The team’s attitude and hunger were remarkable, even if there was obviously not much recovery after playing on Sunday and then on Wednesday. And it’s clear that our objectives were outstanding.

“I often say that I don’t lose sleep over who scores, but I thought our game was of extremely high level. One of our wingers has 18 goals, and another has 17. The most crucial factor is that we have both strikers and midfield guys scoring.
