After reaching the Celtic 500-game milestone, Callum McGregor is not showing any signs of slowing down.

Although he hasn’t yet participated in a top team match, Neil Lennon believes that when the legendary Hoops player does hang up his boots, a future captain will already be in the Parkhead building. Recent years have seen Celtics lose a plethora of young players to clubs throughout Europe, including Liam Morrison, Daniel Kelly, and Ben Doak, who were all enticed to other teams.

After signing to a pre-contract with Aston Villa, promising striker Daniel Cummings is set to be the next in line. However, Kyle Ure, a highly regarded midfielder, defied the trend last week by extending his contract until 2027, despite academy graduates feeling that things are better outside of Glasgow.

After dominating for the youths, the 19-year-old is likely to be the next young player to make an appearance in Brendan Rodgers’ senior squad. In addition to leading the under-18 team to Scottish Youth Cup victory over Rangers in 2023, Ure has been a reliable player for the B team, making an impression in the UEFA Youth League. Lennon also thinks the teen has the potential to be a leader like McGregor because he is a born leader.

“Kyle Ure has played really well in the UEFA Youth League and it’s great to see him signing an extension with Celtic, he is very highly thought of” , he told the website casino-uden-rofus. Although there will undoubtedly be suitors observing, it’s fantastic that he has committed to the club for the future because Callum McGregor and other outstanding role models are present in the building and he can look up to them.

The time has come to develop him into a first team player who can truly mature, and everyone at Celtic is thrilled to have him on board. Given his leadership abilities, I believe the team can get the most out of him. Why can’t he even be a captain in the future?
