Adam Montgomery, who played under manager Callum Davidson during a loan stint at St. Johnstone, has returned to Queen’s Park on loan from Celtic until the end of the current campaign.
After making 18 appearances in the 2021–2022 season, the 22-year-old left-back made his Celtic first team debut under Ange Postecoglou. However, injuries have since hindered his progress, resulting in multiple loan moves in recent years.
Montgomery had stints at Aberdeen, St. Johnstone, Fleetwood, and Motherwell following his breakthrough at Celtic. He had a promising stint at Motherwell, making an impression in his first few games before suffering another injury that forced him to return to Celtic too soon.
Montgomery was connected to a January deadline-day transfer back to St. Johnstone, but the deal fell through, so he stayed at Celtic without playing a senior game this season.
Now, Montgomery has the chance to kick-start his career at Queen’s Park, where he will attempt to earn regular playing time and prove his fitness.
At 22, Montgomery still has time to rekindle his career, and this loan spell could be crucial. It’s interesting to note that he could make his debut this weekend in a Scottish Cup match against Rangers at Ibrox—a possible baptism of fire, but also a huge platform to show what he can do. Working under Callum Davidson again offers a familiar environment, and consistent performances could open the door for a return to Celtic’s first team next season—or a permanent move elsewhere if regular football remains elusive at Parkhead.
