Hearts coach Neil Critchley has shared an update on two injured players ahead of the Scottish Cup last-16 tie against St Mirren on Monday.

During the recent win over Kilmarnock, Craig Halkett suffered a hamstring injury after just 11 minutes on the pitch and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Meanwhile, Aidan Denholm—whose loan at Ross County was cut short after he sustained an injury—has already undergone surgery and faces an extended recovery period.

Critchley explained, “Aidan’s had surgery, so he’s going to be out for a considerable time, similar to Kingsley’s situation. Halkett’s recovery will be shorter, but it will still take weeks rather than days.” He added that Jorge Grant, who trained on Wednesday, is fit, as is Calem Nieuwenhof, who was on the bench over the weekend. “Calum is also part of the squad without any issues,” he confirmed.

Reflecting on the club’s past success—Hearts last won the Scottish Cup in 2012—Critchley highlighted the deep emotional connection that silverware brings to the club, a sentiment best embodied by diehard supporter and club hero Gary Locke. He remarked, “The history and tradition of a football club are vitally important. Being aware of that helps you connect with the club and understand its significance to everyone involved. Gary Locke is incredibly infectious and has been a brilliant influence on me. Although my coaching journey so far has been enjoyable, I want it to continue for a long time.”

Critchley continued, “Speaking with Lockie and seeing his passion for Hearts, there’s no one more determined for the club’s success. Unlike many who are focused on their own careers, Lockie is completely selfless—he genuinely loves Hearts and wants nothing more than the club to succeed. I really appreciate that about him and the overall ethos here, as I feel it suits me perfectly.”
