Rangers Urged to Consider Dundee’s Josh Mulligan as a Transfer Target

Dundee midfielder Josh Mulligan should be on Rangers’ radar after an impressive season with the Dark Blues. The 22-year-old has established himself in the starting lineup and showcased his ability against the Gers, providing an assist in a 1-1 draw at Dens Park on January 9.

Mulligan’s versatility has been a key asset for Tony Docherty’s side, with the Scotsman featuring in multiple positions throughout the campaign.

Rangers and Celtic Advised to Pursue Mulligan

Former midfielder Stephen McGinn has suggested that both Rangers and Celtic should compete for Mulligan’s signature. Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (February 7), the 36-year-old praised the youngster’s potential and even touted him as a possible successor to James Tavernier at Ibrox.

“I really like Mulligan. He’s been shifted to right-back, and if I were at Celtic or Rangers, I’d sign him. Just look at the situation—Tavernier doesn’t have long left in his career, and Rangers will need a right-back,” McGinn stated.

Could Mulligan Be Tavernier’s Long-Term Replacement?

With Tavernier entering the latter stages of his career at 33, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has faced questions about the captain’s future. Although Tavernier has regained his starting spot after an injury setback, Clement has previously experimented with alternatives at right-back.

During Tavernier’s absence, Ridvan Yilmaz filled in effectively but suffered an injury just as he was gaining momentum. Since Jefte’s arrival, the Turkish defender has struggled for consistent game time and could potentially return to Turkey.

While Rangers will likely need to recruit a new right-back in the near future, Mulligan’s lack of experience in the role makes him a risky option. Additionally, uncertainty surrounding Clement’s own future at the club could influence their transfer strategy in the coming months.
