Josuha Guilavogui might never get another start for Leeds United following his performance in the 2-0 defeat to Millwall.

The Whites exited the FA Cup after a disappointing loss to another Championship side at Elland Road on Saturday, 8 February. Manager Daniel Farke rotated his lineup significantly, naming the Frenchman in the starting XI for the first time since the 1-0 victory over Harrogate on 11 January.

Despite making 13 appearances in the Championship this season, the 34-year-old has yet to start any league matches. His rare start in the FA Cup against Millwall was underwhelming: the former Wolfsburg player managed to win only one of five ground duels, received a booking, and was substituted after 69 minutes.

Given that his only two starts have come in the FA Cup—and with his contract set to expire this summer—it seems unlikely he will feature in the starting lineup again this season. Farke appears to be content giving him brief appearances off the bench, especially with players like Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Ao Tanaka, and Joe Rothwell ahead of him in the pecking order.

Off the field, however, Guilavogui makes a significant impact as a motivational presence within the squad. Farke noted on 25 November that the veteran’s pre-match speech helped spark a thrilling 4-3 comeback win against Swansea, and his heartfelt message after the 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough on 12 December further won over the fans.

If Leeds secure promotion to the Premier League, it is doubtful that the club will keep a player who cannot even earn a starting spot in the Championship—making this likely his final start for the team.
