Luis Sinisterra’s Bournemouth Move Turns Sour Amid Injury Struggles
Leeds United faced the threat of legal action if they didn’t allow Luis Sinisterra to join Bournemouth, and while the Cherries are thriving, the winger himself is not.
Following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League in 2023, the club braced for major player departures. However, the manner in which they were forced to offload talent was particularly brutal. Loan and release clauses shaped Daniel Farke’s first transfer window, culminating in Sinisterra pushing for a move to Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth in a £20 million loan-to-buy deal.
Injury Woes Persist as Sinisterra’s Bournemouth Struggles Continue
During his time at Leeds, Sinisterra dealt with multiple injury setbacks but still showed glimpses of his Premier League quality. His switch to Bournemouth, a club on the rise under one of Europe’s most promising managers, seemed like a logical career move.
However, the injury concerns that plagued him at Elland Road have followed him to the South Coast. Last season, he missed seven games due to muscle problems, and the same pattern has continued this campaign. Currently sidelined with a long-term injury, he was absent for Bournemouth’s recent trip to Everton as he works his way back to fitness.
18 Games Missed: Sinisterra Struggles to Make an Impact
Despite his fitness concerns, Bournemouth saw enough potential in Sinisterra last season to make his move permanent for £20 million. Yet, this season has been a challenge.
His hamstring injury has kept him out for 108 days and counting, causing him to miss 18 games so far. While Leeds have long moved on from his departure, it’s no surprise to the club that he’s facing the same issues that hindered him at Elland Road.
Although Bournemouth are on course for European football, Sinisterra’s struggles to stay fit have made it difficult for him to enjoy the team’s success. Since the start of last season, he has managed just 32 appearances, contributing four goals
and four assists.
