Rangers Urged to Sack Philippe Clement After Controversial Decision in Scottish Cup Shock

Rangers have been called to immediately dismiss Philippe Clement following a controversial decision he made during their shocking Scottish Cup exit to Championship side Queen’s Park on Sunday.

The Gers suffered a stunning 1-0 defeat in the fifth round at Ibrox on February 9, leaving fans in disbelief. Seb Drozd emerged as the unlikely hero for the second-tier side, scoring low into the Rangers net with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, Rangers failed to capitalize on their chances and delivered a lackluster second-half performance. Even when awarded a last-minute penalty, James Tavernier saw his effort saved by Queen’s Park goalkeeper Calum Ferrie.

However, what truly enraged Herald journalist Mark McDougall was a particular in-game decision from Clement—one he believes is grounds for instant dismissal.

Clement’s Puzzling Substitution Raises Eyebrows

The Belgian manager, struggling to inspire his side in a dire second-half display, had already made five changes. Yet, he controversially opted to substitute one of Rangers’ most creative players, Ianis Hagi, replacing him with left-back Ridvan Yilmaz while chasing a goal.

McDougall expressed his frustration on X, writing:

“Just remember that Philippe Clement took Rangers’ most creative player off for a left-back while chasing a goal. Even if there’s somehow a comeback, he should be sacked after this.”

Clement’s Future at Rangers in Serious Doubt

This result could spell the end of Clement’s tenure at Rangers, with the defeat deemed inexcusable. Already trailing Celtic by 13 points in the Premiership and having lost the Scottish League Cup final to their rivals on penalties, the Scottish Cup was seen as their best shot at silverware.

While Rangers remain in the Europa League, the prospect of European glory seems increasingly unrealistic, especially after such a humiliating domestic performance.

The club has consistently backed Clement as a long-term appointment, but a defeat of this magnitude demands consequences. The pressure is now mounting, and his time at Ibrox may be running out.
