Josef Onoh, the leader of the APC, accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of directing widespread corruption, economic collapse, and escalating insecurity. He pointed to statistics showing that the number of Nigerians killed in violent attacks increased from 34,972 in 2015 to 98,083 by 2023. Onoh also blamed Buhari for policies that resulted in a decline in foreign investments and economic hardship.

The APC elder charged that Buhari’s government was responsible for massive corruption and escalating Nigerian insecurity.

Buhari recently asserted that Nigeria’s economy and security have improved under his leadership, to which Onoh responded. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which ruled for 16 years prior to Buhari’s reign, left him with a faltering economy and security issues, he had claimed.

In response, Onoh denied these allegations, claiming that during Buhari’s leadership, Nigeria experienced an economic meltdown, an increase in corruption, and unheard-of levels of insecurity.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration is currently dealing with the fallout from Buhari’s economic mismanagement, Onoh contended.

By citing data on the number of people killed in violent incidents, Onoh further emphasized the security issues Nigeria faced under Buhari.

Onoh further noted that Nigeria was among the least secure countries in the world under Buhari’s rule.

According to The Punch, he added, Nigeria came in at number 148 out of 163 countries in that year’s Global Peace Index, trailing countries like Rwanda (79), Liberia (59), and Sierra Leone (52).

Onoh also linked Buhari’s administration’s inability to address insecurity to Nigeria’s declining foreign direct investments.
