Steven Gerrard departed Aston Villa in 2022 after an 11-month tenure as manager.
The former Villa boss is currently the bookmakers’ favorite to take over at Rangers, with pressure mounting on Philippe Clement. Calls for the Belgian’s dismissal grew louder after the Gers suffered a shocking Scottish Cup defeat to Championship side Queens Park on Sunday. Despite this, Clement is expected to lead the team in their upcoming league clash against Hearts.
Failure to secure a victory could spell the end of Clement’s nearly two-year tenure at Ibrox. With speculation intensifying, Birmingham Live has reviewed the latest Betfair odds for the next Rangers manager.
Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, is the frontrunner for a return, with odds of 2/1. However, he may face competition from a former rival on the pitch—ex-Manchester United and Everton striker Wayne Rooney—who is priced at 5/1 as the fifth favorite.
Both Gerrard and Rooney are currently unemployed following their respective managerial stints at Al-Ettifaq and Plymouth Argyle. Gerrard spent 18 months in Saudi Arabia, while Rooney’s time at Plymouth was cut short after just seven months, leaving the club at the bottom of the Championship.
Latest Betfair odds for next Rangers manager:
Steven Gerrard – 2/1
Russell Martin – 3/1
Sean Dyche – 4/1
Wayne Rooney – 5/1
Kasper Hjulmand – 7/1
Jack Wilshere – 12/1
