When Rangers fans hear the name Sam Lammers, they often associate him with an underwhelming presence on the pitch.

The lanky forward’s six-month spell in Glasgow was marked by wasted chances and a lack of conviction—something Rangers supporters have seen all too often under the intense scrutiny at Ibrox.

Beyond his struggles on the field, many fans also lament the reported £3.5 million spent to bring him in under Michael Beale.

After attempting to revive his career with a six-month loan at Utrecht last season, Lammers joined FC Twente as part of a summer exodus that only brought Rangers £800,000 in return.

Now, just six months later, the Dutch striker could find himself back at Ibrox—this time as an opponent—if Twente advances to the Europa League last 16.

FC Twente Could Yet Face Rangers in Europa League

With Rangers skipping the Europa League playoff round, they now await their last-16 opponent, which will be one of Fenerbahce vs. Anderlecht or FC Twente vs. Bodo/Glimt.

While Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce comfortably dispatched Anderlecht, Twente had a much tougher battle against Bodo/Glimt.

A last-minute Ricky van Wolfswinkel penalty secured a 2-1 win over the Norwegian side after an earlier goal from Sayfallah Ltaief and a late equalizer from Patrick Berg in the 85th minute.

Lammers, 27, remained on the bench throughout the match, watching as his side secured a hard-fought victory to set up a decisive return leg in Norway—a match with significant implications for Rangers.

Sam Lammers Isn’t the Only Rangers Connection

While there’s a 50/50 chance of drawing Fenerbahce, a potential clash with Twente comes with additional intrigue.

Lammers’ presence is one storyline, but Rangers also signed a key Twente player in Robin Pröpper over the summer. The defender has endured a difficult season at Ibrox, but he was a crucial figure at Twente, and his departure has drawn public frustration from several key figures at the Dutch club.

Additionally, Twente currently have Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke on loan, with the Swedish defender brought in to fill the gap left by Pröpper’s exit.
