Rangers Secure 3-1 Victory Over Hearts to Ease Pressure on Philippe Clement
Rangers defeated Hearts 3-1 in the Scottish Premiership at Tynecastle, providing some much-needed relief for manager Philippe Clement.
An early strike from Vaclav Cerny, along with two own goals from Hearts defender Jamie McCart, ensured the Ibrox side overcame a determined Jambos team in Edinburgh.
Here’s how the Rangers players performed as they closed the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 13 points.
Rangers Player Ratings vs Hearts
Jack Butland – 9
Philippe Clement might have been in serious trouble if not for Butland’s outstanding display at Tynecastle. The Rangers goalkeeper, who has faced criticism at times this season, delivered a sensational performance, making nine crucial saves. Hearts forward Elton Kabangu will likely have nightmares about Butland’s heroics.
James Tavernier – 6
The Rangers captain was part of a disjointed defense that relied heavily on Butland’s brilliance. Though tidy in possession and always an attacking outlet, Tavernier has had more influential performances in a Gers shirt.
John Souttar – 7
Handled Hearts’ aerial threats well and provided much-needed stability at the back. Still regaining full fitness, but his presence in the starting XI makes Rangers a stronger side.
Clinton Nsiala – 7
Delivered a superb cross late in the match and contributed solidly to Rangers’ defensive efforts.
Nicolas Raskin – 6
Made nine recoveries and worked tirelessly in midfield. However, he lacked composure on the ball and missed a key chance to set up a fourth goal for Rangers. His defensive qualities are evident, but he needs to improve his control in possession.
Mohamed Diomande – 8
Played deeper to help Rangers counter Hearts’ pressing game. Although wasteful at times in the first half, he became instrumental in keeping possession and dictating play. Played a key role in the buildup to Cerny’s goal.
Tom Lawrence – 6
Given his first start since November, but struggled to make an impact as Hearts controlled the first half. Showed glimpses of creativity but lacked fitness and energy.
Vaclav Cerny – 7
Scored his 14th goal of the season, capitalizing on a fortunate break of the ball. Had earlier gone close with a left-footed strike but was inconsistent with his passing throughout the game.
Ianis Hagi – 8
Operating on the left due to a lack of alternatives, Hagi showed discipline by staying wide in the first half. He played a key role in both of McCart’s own goals, assisting Rangers’ first and third goals. Booked for a late challenge after losing possession in a dangerous area.
Hamza Igamane – 6
Struggled to make a significant impact and was isolated at times. Showed flashes of quality and nearly scored a stunning solo goal. Will have better games when Rangers are more dominant.
Substitutes:
Cyriel Dessers – 7: Came on for Lawrence and played a part in Rangers’ third goal. Held up play well and had an offside goal ruled out.
Robin Propper – 6: Replaced Souttar and looked composed in defense.
Rafael Fernandes & Finlay Curtis – N/A: Featured in the final minutes.
