Rangers Eye Motherwell Star Lennon Miller in Transfer Rebuild
Rangers director Nils Koppen has vowed to focus on homegrown talent as the Ibrox club looks to overhaul its squad following years of transfer missteps.
The Gers squad is currently filled with overpaid underperformers, failing to meet the expectations of a frustrated fanbase. To rectify this, Koppen has outlined a 14-point transfer strategy, emphasizing a buy-low, sell-high approach, with a particular focus on the best talent in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers secured Connor Barron from Aberdeen last summer and have a deal in place for Dundee’s Lyall Cameron, who will join at the end of the season. However, the club has now been urged to make a move for one of Scottish football’s most exciting prospects—Motherwell’s Lennon Miller—who has been described as a £15 million player available for a fraction of that price.
Lennon Miller: A Rising Star in Scottish Football

At just 18 years old, Lennon Miller has already established himself as a key figure in Motherwell’s midfield, playing a crucial role under new manager Michael Wimmer. His performances have attracted interest from Rangers, Celtic, and even Premier League club Liverpool.
Motherwell previously turned down a £2.5 million bid from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise (USG) last summer, believing Miller’s value to be significantly higher. Football pundit Michael Stewart has even suggested that Miller, given his age, profile, and playing style, is worth around £15 million, comparing him to players in England’s top leagues.
Speaking on Premier Sports, Stewart explained:
“If you look at Lennon Miller objectively—his age, his profile, his skill set—there’s no doubt he’s comparable to players being sold for £14m or £15m in England.”
However, he acknowledged that Scottish football’s transfer market has limitations, likening it to property prices:
“It’s like the housing market. If a fantastic house is in a less desirable area, it has a price ceiling. Put the same house in a prime location, and its value skyrockets. Unfortunately, Scottish football has that price ceiling.”
Can Rangers Land Miller at a Cut Price?
Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes Motherwell could demand around £6 million if clubs express serious interest this summer. He also advised that any sale should include a sell-on clause, ensuring Motherwell benefits from any future transfer.
Stewart agrees that while Miller’s actual worth may be around £15 million, Motherwell would likely accept a lower fee, especially if a significant sell-on percentage is included in the deal.
“I was being serious about Miller’s value, but I don’t think he’ll go for that money. A sell-on clause is a certainty, but I doubt Motherwell will get £5m or £6m—probably closer to £4m with a big future percentage.”
With Rangers keen to reshape their squad under Koppen’s leadership, the opportunity to sign one of Scotland’s brightest young talents at a reasonable fee could be too good to pass up. Whether the Gers will make a formal move for Miller remains to be seen, but the midfielder is undoubtedly one to watch in the upcoming transfer window.
