Norwich Eye Summer Move for Peterborough’s Emmanuel Fernandez
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony expects Norwich City to make another attempt to sign one of his key defenders.
Norwich Transfer Plans
Sitting just four points outside the Championship play-off spots, Norwich City still have a strong chance of making a late push for promotion in their remaining 13 matches. If Johannes Hoff Thorup can guide his side to the play-offs in his first season in English football, it would be a commendable achievement. However, a three-game winless streak highlights the challenges they must overcome.
While Norwich focus on their play-off ambitions, club officials may already be looking ahead to potential summer reinforcements who could strengthen their squad and push them further up the table next season.
Transfer speculation is already gaining traction, with Peterborough’s chairman fueling the rumors. MacAnthony believes Norwich will reignite their interest in Emmanuel Fernandez after failing to land him in January, despite making a £2.5 million bid.
Expressing his surprise that Fernandez remained at Peterborough, MacAnthony told The Hard Truth podcast, as reported by the Peterborough Telegraph:
“It blew my mind and my manager’s mind when Manny and his brothers turned the deal down.”
He continued:
“Norwich were frustrated, and I don’t blame them. Manny has faced a lot of challenges over the past 18 months, but I believe they’ll try again this summer. At 23, he’s a fantastic talent.
“He wins an impressive 80% of his aerial duels—far above average—and he’s comfortable playing out from the back. With the right coaching, he could follow in the footsteps of Ethan Pinnock and James Tarkowski, who worked their way up to the Premier League.”
Should Norwich Reignite Their Interest?
Standing at 6’6 and still developing at 23, Fernandez could be the ideal addition to Thorup’s squad. Despite Norwich’s frustration over their failed January pursuit, revisiting the move in the summer could be a wise decision.
Although MacAnthony’s comparisons to Pinnock and Tarkowski may come with an element of self-interest, Fernandez has the potential to elevate Norwich to the next level. If the Canaries return for him in the summer, it remains to be seen whether MacAnthony will be surprised once again or if Norwich will finally land their target.
With his attributes and growing reputation, Fernandez is certainly one to watch—whether he stays at Peterborough or makes the step up to the Championship with Norwich.
