Callum Doyle Teases Teammate Lewis Dobbin After Norwich’s 4-2 Win Over Stoke
Callum Doyle had a lighthearted dig at Norwich City teammate Lewis Dobbin following their 4-2 victory over Stoke City at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.
Aston Villa loanee Doyle opened the scoring for the Canaries just after the half-hour mark, but Stoke quickly responded as Lewis Baker equalized. However, a brace from Josh Sargent and a Junior Tchamadeu own goal put Norwich firmly in control. Baker pulled one back from the penalty spot in the dying moments, but the result further dented Stoke’s hopes of escaping the relegation battle, while Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side moved within four points of the play-off spots.
The win marked Norwich’s first since their 1-0 triumph over Watford on February 1, reigniting their push for a top-six finish.
Doyle Reacts to Dobbin’s Celebration Against Stoke
Dobbin, who joined Norwich from Aston Villa in January, netted his second goal for the club and continued his impressive recent form after a tough first half of the season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
With Thorup relying on confident players to drive Norwich’s play-off push, the 22-year-old has shown encouraging signs in recent weeks. He even had a goal disallowed for offside against Derby County earlier in the month.
Against Stoke, Dobbin finished clinically, slotting the ball into the bottom corner after a brilliant through ball from Marcelino Núñez.
Following the win, he took to Instagram to celebrate, posting: “Enjoyed that one 💛”.
Doyle couldn’t resist a cheeky comment, replying: “That’s a fine, that celebration.” Dobbin fired back, saying: “Suspended players don’t get a say pal.”
Norwich Need Consistency to Maintain Play-Off Push
The Championship’s unpredictability has been evident in recent months, with as many as ten teams battling for the final two play-off spots. While a small gap has begun to form at the top of that race, inconsistency remains an issue for most contenders.
Heading into Saturday’s fixture, Norwich had gone three league games without a win, making the result even more crucial. They responded well to the pressure, dominating early and ensuring Stoke never gained a foothold in the match. Sargent, in particular, was outstanding, taking his goal tally to 11 for the season.
If Thorup can maintain this momentum, Norwich will be a formidable challenge for any opponent, and back-to-back play-off finishes at Carrow Road could become a reality.
