Celtic Maintain Interest in Motherwell’s Lennon Miller Ahead of Potential Summer Move
Celtic remain keen on signing Lennon Miller, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire in May 2026.
Given that timeline, a transfer this summer appears highly likely, with Motherwell expected to demand a fee exceeding the £3 million they received from Celtic for David Turnbull in 2020.
Despite having five midfielders competing for three spots, Celtic’s squad remains fluid following Matt O’Riley’s departure last summer. Interest from top European leagues in players like Reo Hatate and Arne Engels is expected, and as seen with Kyogo Furuhashi’s January exit, Celtic are always open to selling key talents for the right price.
Recruiting homegrown talent is a crucial part of Celtic’s strategy, particularly with UEFA regulations requiring eight Scottish-developed players in every squad. Miller fits that profile perfectly, making him an obvious target.
Celtic Closely Monitoring Miller
According to The Daily Record, the Scottish champions are actively tracking Miller and could make a summer bid.
Celtic approached Motherwell at the end of the last transfer window but were informed that the midfielder was not for sale. The Lanarkshire club had just secured Stuart Kettlewell’s contract extension and didn’t want to compound matters by losing one of their most valuable players. Additionally, Miller was sidelined with an injury, and it was too late in the window to find a replacement.
However, Celtic’s interest remains strong, with scouts regularly updating Brendan Rodgers on Miller’s performances. The Hoops highly rate the teenager and are aware that major European clubs, including Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, are also monitoring his progress.
Miller missed all of January due to injury but returned in style, playing a key role in Motherwell’s 2-1 victory at Ibrox on Saturday. The midfielder has already made 59 first-team appearances and will turn 19 in August.
