Rangers Captain James Tavernier Makes Generous Donation to Fundraiser for Late Gers Fan
Rangers captain James Tavernier has contributed a significant sum to a fundraiser set up in memory of Christopher Potter, a devoted Gers fan who tragically lost his life in Turkey.
Christopher, believed to be from Glasgow’s East End, had traveled to Istanbul along with thousands of fellow Rangers supporters to watch his beloved team face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, March 6. Sadly, he was involved in a fatal road traffic accident while in the city.
Following his passing, friends and loved ones launched a fundraiser to help cover expenses such as funeral costs and provide financial support to his family during this difficult time. The GoFundMe page, urging people to “dig deep” in support, has since raised over £73,000, with contributions pouring in from many, including Scotland international Robert Snodgrass.
Now, Rangers captain and club legend James Tavernier has also stepped in, donating £500 to the cause and sharing the fundraiser on his Instagram story to encourage further support.
Rangers FC confirmed Christopher’s passing in a statement on Thursday morning, expressing their devastation over the loss. A club spokesperson said:
“We are devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters in a road traffic accident overnight in Istanbul. The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We are remaining in constant contact with both the Turkish and British authorities over this tragic incident.”
The overwhelming response to the fundraiser highlights the unity and compassion within the Rangers community as they rally around Christopher’s loved ones.
