As summer approaches, clubs like Norwich City will not only be focusing on potential signings but also assessing which players might depart.

It has been a challenging season for the Canaries. After reaching the play-offs last year, they now find themselves stuck in mid-table. If their form doesn’t improve, missing out on promotion will be disappointing—but perhaps more concerning is the likelihood that some of their top players will seek moves to higher levels.

Here, Football League World examines two players who could be on the move this summer.

Josh Sargent

Josh Sargent has been the focal point of Norwich’s attack for several seasons, consistently hitting double digits in Championship goals for three consecutive campaigns.

There has long been speculation about whether the U.S. international can perform at a higher level, and this season has made it seem less likely that he’ll get that opportunity with Norwich.

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie recently told FLW that if the Canaries fail to secure a play-off spot, this could be the right time for Sargent to consider his next move—potentially to a top-end Championship or lower-end Premier League side.

At 25, Sargent is moving out of the “prospect” phase and into his prime years. If he wants to push himself to the highest level, and with Norwich’s standing in the league possibly declining, a transfer could be the best step forward.

From Norwich’s perspective, losing Sargent wouldn’t be a disaster. Having extended his contract until 2028, the club is in a strong position to demand a significant fee.

Borja Sainz

If Sargent’s future is in question, the same applies to Borja Sainz.

Signed from Turkish side Giresunspor, Sainz has made a huge impact in English football. He has already surpassed an impressive debut season, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in just 30 appearances this campaign.

Reports from Spain suggest La Liga side Girona is considering a bid in the range of €20m-€25m for the winger, with Celtic also reportedly interested. With the potential of European football on offer—something far from Norwich’s reach—even more clubs are likely to be monitoring his progress.

Like Sargent, Sainz is in peak form at 24 and may see this as the ideal time to capitalize on the interest and take the next step in his career. A move would not only provide a new challenge but also significantly increase his current £15,000-per-week wages, as estimated by Capology.

What’s Next?

The futures of both players will largely depend on Norwich’s end-of-season performance. However, unless the club experiences a major turnaround, moving on may be the most logical decision for Sargent and Sainz.

Both players have shown they are too talented to remain in the Championship for another season, and with promotion looking unlikely, Norwich could be set to lose two of their key stars.
