Celtic Monitoring Rangers’ Potential Takeover by San Francisco 49ers
Celtic fans are eagerly anticipating their Scottish Cup showdown against Hibernian, but some are also keeping an eye on developments across Glasgow at Rangers.
Reports suggest that Rangers are in discussions over a potential takeover by a consortium linked to NFL giants, the San Francisco 49ers, as the Ibrox club aims to end Celtic’s dominance in Scottish football.
According to Sky Sports, the deal has been agreed in principle, with the American investors currently conducting due diligence before finalizing their move. However, there has been no response from Celtic’s board—and understandably so. Until a deal is officially completed, it’s business as usual at Parkhead.
Celtic have reportedly been reassured that, as long as Brendan Rodgers remains in charge, the potential takeover will have little immediate impact. With his experience and financial backing, Rodgers is well-equipped to handle any challenge from a revamped Rangers side. However, according to BBC’s Chris McLaughlin, Celtic’s hierarchy is closely monitoring the situation.
Celtic ‘Keeping a Close Watch’ on Rangers’ Takeover Talks
Speaking on The Scottish Football Podcast, McLaughlin revealed:
“From what I’m told, Celtic are watching this situation with great interest.
Would they be concerned? If they want to maintain their dominance in Scottish football – and of course they do – they will certainly see this as a challenge.
They know these investors are serious, they’re in it for the long term, and they have the financial power to back Rangers.
More importantly, they have the business expertise in sports to turn Rangers into a real competitor again. There’s no doubt about that.
Are Celtic worried? I’d have to ask them directly, but I’ve been told they are keeping a close watch.”
Should Celtic Be Worried About Rangers’ Takeover?
Celtic have dominated Scottish football for the majority of the 21st century, and there is no indication that will change anytime soon.
With a well-structured recruitment strategy, a proven player-trading model, and a self-sustaining financial system compliant with UEFA’s FFP regulations, Celtic are in an excellent position to deal with any new challenge from Rangers.
As long as the takeover remains incomplete, Celtic will continue doing what they do best—winning domestic trophies and widening the gap between themselves and their city rivals, just as they have for the past three decades.
