Melbourne Storm Crush Parramatta Eels in Dominant Round-One Victory

Melbourne Storm 56 – Parramatta Eels 18

Melbourne Storm kicked off their season in emphatic fashion, securing the biggest victory of the opening round and extending their incredible streak of 23 consecutive round-one wins.

A devastating eight-try first half put the result beyond doubt early on, leaving new Parramatta coach Jason Ryles facing a humbling start to his tenure. While the Eels did manage to win the second half, it was little more than a consolation.

Storm’s Stars Shine in Ruthless Display

Melbourne’s key players took center stage from the outset, with Ryan Papenhuyzen setting the tone by scoring the opening try. Cameron Munster then orchestrated a flurry of attacks, setting up tries for Josh King, Xavier Coates, and Eliesa Katoa.

Papenhuyzen and Jack Howarth combined to provide a second try for Coates, while Nick Meaney linked up with captain Harry Grant for another. Meaney later intercepted a poor pass from Eels debutant Ryley Smith to cross the line, before Jake Tago responded for the visitors just before halftime. Papenhuyzen capped off a first-half masterclass with another try, sending Melbourne into the break with a commanding 46-6 lead.

The scoring continued after the restart, as Will Warbrick intercepted an Isaiah Iongi pass to sprint the length of the field, followed by Jahrome Hughes finishing off a brilliant Howarth break. The Eels managed two late tries through Will Penisini and Iongi, but the damage had long been done.
