Leeds United and 49ers Enterprises Secure Verbal Agreement for Summer Signing
Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a reunion with Kalvin Phillips, as the club and 49ers Enterprises have reached a verbal agreement with the midfielder for a potential return to Elland Road this summer.
With Leeds battling Sheffield United and Burnley for automatic promotion to the Premier League, the club’s owners are already planning for the top flight. Their summer transfer targets include Phillips, who left for Manchester City in 2022 for over £40m but has struggled for game time, making just 31 appearances and spending loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich Town.
Now at Ipswich, Phillips has been heavily linked with a Leeds return if the Whites secure promotion. TEAMtalk reports that Leeds have an informal agreement with the midfielder, while Man City are open to selling him for around £20m. Though Phillips would need to take a pay cut, he is reportedly willing to do so to return to his boyhood club.
At 29, Phillips has earned praise from top managers, including Xavi Hernandez and Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna. His impressive performances under Marcelo Bielsa helped Leeds achieve promotion in 2020, and manager Daniel Farke will be hoping he can replicate those displays should the deal go through.
