Top Manager Target Reportedly Interested in Rangers Job Amid 49ers Takeover
Rangers are currently under the interim leadership of former captain Barry Ferguson following Philippe Clement’s departure last month. While Ferguson will guide the team until the end of the season, the club is also navigating an impending takeover by 49ers Enterprises.
The 49ers have reached an agreement in principle to assume control at Ibrox and are aiming to finalize the deal before the new season. As part of their preparations, they have been considering managerial candidates, with Rafael Benitez emerging as a key name in discussions.
According to recent reports, sources close to the club previously identified Benitez as a leading option for the role. Now, former scout Mick Brown has revealed to Football Insider that Benitez is eager to take charge at Rangers. Brown claims the former Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Everton boss is keen on a return to British football and views the Rangers position as an appealing opportunity.
However, despite his interest, Brown suggests Benitez may not be among the frontrunners for the job, as the club continues to evaluate multiple candidates.
If appointed, the 64-year-old would be managing in Scotland for the first time in his extensive 30-year career, having last coached La Liga side Celta Vigo. With Rangers in transition and Benitez actively seeking a return to management, this situation is one to watch in the coming months.
