Angus Gunn Seeks Clarity Over Norwich City Future Amid Expiring Contract

Angus Gunn has expressed his desire for greater transparency from Norwich City regarding his future, as his current contract approaches its expiration.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper could depart Carrow Road this summer unless an agreement is reached with the club. Despite being the first-choice under Johannes Hoff Thorup this season, Gunn has been sidelined with an injury since Norwich’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.

Having joined Norwich from Southampton in 2021 following the club’s promotion under Daniel Farke, the Scotland international now faces uncertainty over his future.

Gunn Opens Up on Contract Uncertainty

Gunn has admitted that no discussions have taken place regarding a potential contract extension, leaving him unsure about his long-term prospects with the club.

“I’ve not heard anything from the club, which is a concern,” Gunn told the BBC.

“I get asked about it a lot, but I genuinely don’t have an answer because there’s been no communication.

“I just want some clarity—especially for my family, as I need to plan for the future,” he added.

“For a professional footballer, knowing where you stand is crucial. It would be nice to have some clarity either way, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Gunn’s Impact at Norwich

Gunn has featured in 29 Championship matches this season, solidifying his place as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper since their relegation in 2022. Under Thorup, he has recorded four clean sheets while conceding 36 goals in the league.

Since his hamstring injury earlier this month, Vicente Reyes has stepped in, conceding four times in two games. Norwich’s next challenge comes on Friday night, when they face Bristol City in an 8pm kickoff.

Norwich’s Lack of Action on Gunn’s Future Raises Eyebrows

Gunn has been a valuable asset to Norwich since his arrival, proving to be a reliable presence between the posts. If he becomes a free agent, he is likely to attract significant interest from other clubs.

It is surprising that Norwich have not been more proactive in securing his future, given his importance to the squad. His injury absence could even highlight his value, particularly if the team struggles without him.

Thorup himself appears taken aback by the lack of contract discussions. Speaking to Pink’Un, the Norwich boss admitted he expected talks to have taken place.

“I don’t know how the communication has been,” he said. “That’s between his agency and Ben (Knapper). It’s the right time for us to sit down and discuss it. I expect there has been some communication recently.”

Thorup’s comments suggest that negotiations may be imminent, if they haven’t already started.
