Robbie Savage Fires Back at Chris Sutton Over Rangers vs. Celtic Comments
Chris Sutton found himself on the defensive after Rangers secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Celtic in Sunday’s intense Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.
The Gers stormed to a 2-0 lead at halftime, courtesy of goals from Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande, before Celtic staged a comeback through Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. However, Hamza Igamane’s late winner sealed a crucial win for Barry Ferguson’s side.
Savage Takes Aim at Sutton Over Rangers Remark
Following the match, Sutton took to social media to share his thoughts, posting on X: “Superb advert for the Scottish game. Igamane took his goal superbly and deserved of winning any game. Bottom line is the gap at the top is 13 points with 8 games left. I know who I’d rather be. Fair play to Rangers, who play well when the pressure and expectation isn’t on them…”
However, Robbie Savage was unimpressed with his colleague’s comments and called him out on BBC Radio 5 Live, stating: “Chris, I’ve got to say, I saw your tweet earlier—absolutely pathetic. Give Rangers some credit, they’re the form team in Scotland right now.”
Rangers Must Build on Old Firm Momentum
Despite their impressive Europa League run, where they are set to face Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals following a dramatic penalty shootout win over Fenerbahce, Rangers have struggled for consistency in domestic competitions.
While Sunday’s win was a significant morale boost, the Gers remain 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Their struggles at Ibrox under interim boss Barry Ferguson have been evident, with a recent 2-1 home defeat to Motherwell and an early Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park.
Having also fallen short in the League Cup final against Celtic, Ferguson’s men must use this latest Old Firm triumph as a catalyst for a strong finish to an otherwise turbulent season.
