Leeds United Eye £10m+ Loss Deal for Roma’s Tammy Abraham as They Seek Bamford Upgrade
Leeds United are reportedly exploring an upgrade to Patrick Bamford, with a European giant now prepared to take a £10 million-plus loss on a player.
Leeds Targeting Striker to Boost Promotion Push
Daniel Farke’s side remains firmly in the hunt for promotion after a dramatic comeback from two goals down secured a 2-2 draw at QPR on Saturday, keeping them top of the Championship heading into the international break. With just eight games remaining, Leeds are in a fierce battle with Sheffield United and Burnley to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Regardless of whether they clinch promotion, signing a new striker is high on the agenda for Leeds. Farke and his team have been actively scouting potential targets, with Southampton’s Cameron Archer remaining on their radar after initial interest in January. Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor and Nice’s Evann Guessand are also being considered.
Additionally, Tammy Abraham has emerged as a potential summer target, with the 49ers-led ownership exploring a move for the English striker. Leeds are also monitoring Almeria forward Ibrahima Kone, according to Africa Foot.
Roma Ready to Offload Abraham at a Significant Loss
According to Milan Press, relayed by Leeds United News, Roma are ready to part ways with Abraham this summer and have communicated the price tag to interested clubs. AC Milan, where Abraham is currently on loan, has no intention of signing him permanently, meaning he will return to Roma at the end of the season.
The Italian club is willing to accept an offer in the range of €20-25 million (£16-21 million), which represents a loss of over £10 million after they signed Abraham from Chelsea for £34 million. Leeds are among several English clubs, including Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Everton, and West Ham, monitoring Abraham’s situation. However, Leeds’ chances of securing the 27-year-old likely depend on securing promotion.
Abraham’s Struggles at Milan and Potential Leeds Impact
The 27-year-old, described as “outstanding” by Henry Winter, has struggled to find his form at AC Milan this season, managing just two goals and three assists in 24 league appearances. However, Abraham boasts a solid Premier League record, having netted 26 goals in 89 top-flight matches. His arrival at Elland Road would undoubtedly be seen as a significant upgrade over Bamford, who has been plagued by injuries this season.
Bamford’s Future Uncertain Amid Injury Woes
Bamford, now 31, has endured another frustrating season, featuring in just 10 league games due to fitness concerns. Although he remains under contract until 2026, a return to the Premier League could see Leeds opt to move him on and invest in a more reliable striker. Abraham’s arrival would not only address the team’s need for goals but also signal Leeds’ intent to establish themselves in the top flight should they secure promotion.
