Hearts Fans Face Hefty Price for Bus Trip to Hampden
Hearts have addressed backlash from supporters over the cost of their travel and ticket package for next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen. Fans are being asked to pay £78 (£63 for concessions) for the package, which includes a return coach trip from Tynecastle to Hampden Park and a match ticket in the West Stand. Given that tickets in that section cost £30, this means supporters are being charged £48 just for the bus journey—significantly more than other travel options like supporters’ buses, public transport, or driving.
Many Hearts fans took to social media to criticize the pricing, calling it “shameful,” “embarrassing,” and “out of touch.” In response, the club issued a statement to Edinburgh News, explaining the reasoning behind the pricing.
The club noted that the aim was to offer fans a hassle-free experience by bundling the ticket with convenient transport to and from Hampden. They cited high coach hire costs, VAT, and demand as key factors in setting the price, emphasizing that any profit would be minimal. While uptake has been strong, Hearts acknowledged fan concerns and pledged to consider the feedback for future trips.
Last May, Hearts organized buses for the Scottish Women’s Cup final against Rangers, charging £10 for adults and £5 for concessions—prices made possible by subsidies from the Big Hearts Community Trust.
Details of the current package, posted on the club’s website, confirm that sales will open at 10 am on Tuesday, March 18. Buses will depart Tynecastle at 10 am for the 12:30 pm kick-off, with no loyalty points requirement for booking.
