Sunderland’s Finn Geragusian Shines While Playing Beyond His Age Group

Sunderland striker Finn Geragusian continues to impress at the Academy of Light, excelling well above his age level this season. The promising forward is eager to achieve more after a breakout campaign with the club’s under-21s.

Geragusian has been a standout performer for Graeme Murty’s side, and his impact was on full display during Sunderland’s Premier League 2 win over Leeds United at Hetton on Monday night, where he scored twice. His contributions extend beyond just one level, with the 2024-25 season seeing him score six goals and provide four assists for the under-18s while adding three goals and two assists for the under-21s. This brings his impressive tally to 15 goal contributions in 20 games across both age groups.

Geragusian Reflects on His Progress and Motivation

Speaking after the win against Leeds, Geragusian expressed his satisfaction with his performance and the team’s effort. “I’m really happy with how I played and how the team performed,” he said. “The first goal was a bit scrappy, but a goal is a goal. The second one was served up perfectly by Harrison Jones, and I was grateful for that.”

The young striker is clearly enjoying his time with the under-21s. “The team’s great, the morale is high, and that motivates me to keep pushing myself. We just have to keep giving our all, play our game, and impose our style, which I think we did really well. I’m learning things I hadn’t known before, and playing with them is a great experience because the tempo is so different.”

International Recognition and Future Ambitions

Geragusian also recently earned a call-up to Armenia’s under-19 squad, qualifying through his parents. Reflecting on the international experience, he said: “It was an amazing experience to go over there, meet new people, and experience different countries. The quality was really high, and it was great to be part of that.”

Looking Ahead to Upcoming Challenges

Sunderland’s under-21s now prepare for a clash against Nottingham Forest at the Stadium of Light, followed by a key match against Tottenham at Hetton as Murty’s team aims to secure spots in the Premier League International Cup and the Premier League 2 play-offs.

Looking ahead, Geragusian is ready for the challenge. “The next game will be tough because they’ll be working just as hard as Leeds did. But we need to keep pushing, keep driving forward, and if we play like we did today—maybe even better—we’ll definitely come out on top.”
