Cameron Carter-Vickers is the first to acknowledge that his performance in Celticās recent clash with Rangers wasnāt his best.
While Celtic have dominated the Glasgow Derby in recent years, Rangers have won two of the last three meetings and pushed Brendan Rodgersā side to penalties in the League Cup final.
Amid criticism of Celticās mentality, some believe the team has become complacent due to their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership. However, Carter-Vickers dismisses that notion, insisting that while the players are aware of their position, losing games is still unacceptable.
Carter-Vickers Denies Claims of a Mentality Shift
Speaking to The Mirror (print edition, page 38), Carter-Vickers said:
“Itās a position you want to be in. You always want to be as far ahead as possible. But that doesnāt mean we can just accept losing. We never want to lose, and we go out to win every time. That hasnāt changed at all. Weāre aware of the gap, but if anything, we want to extend it.”
Rodgersā Halftime Talk Nearly Sparked a Celtic Comeback
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Carter-Vickers revealed what Brendan Rodgers told the team in an attempt to turn the game around.
“Weāve built a comfortable lead in the league, which reflects the hard work weāve put in so far. But we want to keep pushing until the end of the season. The manager made it clear at halftime that the first-half performance wasnāt good enough. We improved after the break, scored twice, but conceding late on was obviously frustrating.”
With a two-week break before domestic action resumes, Celtic fans now turn their attention to the upcoming clash with Hearts at Celtic Park. A convincing win would help Rodgersā side move one step closer to securing their fourth consecutive league title.
