Cerny Facing Potential Lengthy SPFL Suspension
The Czech winger, substituted in the 82nd minute for Igamane, found himself at the center of controversy after the Moroccan striker scored the winning goal. As the Rangers bench erupted in celebration and ran toward Ferguson, Cerny was seen running along the touchline and appeared to spray water toward Celtic fans near the dugout, an action caught on camera.
According to Daily Record (18 March, pg50), Cerny now faces the prospect of disciplinary action, with the SPFL and Scottish FA considering a suspension ranging from two to eight matches. If the maximum penalty is imposed, Cerny’s season in the Scottish Premiership could effectively be over, as Rangers only have eight league games remaining, three of which are before the split.
Even if Cerny remains available for the UEFA Europa League, his domestic campaign looks increasingly uncertain. Former FIFA official Keith Hackett has also suggested that a ban is highly likely.
Igamane Drawing Interest After Crucial Goal
Igamane’s decisive goal against Celtic, which secured Rangers’ first win at Parkhead since 2020, has thrust him into the spotlight. The 22-year-old Moroccan has impressed with 10 goals in 26 Premiership appearances and four goals in the Europa League, attracting attention from clubs across Europe. Sevilla have reportedly expressed interest, while David Moyes is eager to bring Igamane to Everton.
With Igamane maintaining strong form throughout the season, interest in him is expected to intensify this summer. Should Cerny receive a suspension, Igamane is likely to step into his role, giving him further opportunity to enhance his reputation and draw more suitors.
