Knights Coach Adam O’Brien Defends Dylan Brown Amid Parramatta Fans’ Boos

Newcastle Knights coach Adam O’Brien has offered a reminder to Parramatta fans after they jeered Dylan Brown during last weekend’s match.

The 24-year-old recently committed to a long-term future with the Knights, signing a lucrative 10-year, $13 million deal. However, he remains with the Eels for the rest of the current season. Brown faced a hostile reception from sections of the Parramatta crowd following their tough round-two defeat against the Wests Tigers, but he has not publicly responded to the criticism.

O’Brien, however, acknowledged the situation and expressed sympathy for the five-eighth.

“There’s no doubt it would be tough for any young player to handle that level of criticism,” O’Brien told reporters on Thursday. “I can’t speak for the fans, but what I will say is that Dylan has been a great servant for that club—he even played in a grand final for them.

“He’s still the same player he was three weeks ago … I do feel for him.”

Brown’s Move to Newcastle and Current Form

Having spent his entire NRL career with Parramatta, Brown had the option to stay but ultimately chose to accept Newcastle’s substantial offer. His performances early in the season have come under scrutiny, particularly after signing such a significant contract, but O’Brien remains fully confident in the Knights’ decision.

“I haven’t lost any faith in our signing,” O’Brien said. “I’m really happy that we’ve secured Dylan for next year, and I know exactly how he’ll fit into our team.

“As for his form at Parramatta, I know he’ll stay focused on this season and wants to finish on a strong note with the Eels.”

Brown will be back in action for Parramatta on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Bulldogs.
