Rangers are daring to dream in the Europa League, with Barry Ferguson aiming to guide them to another major final.
The Glasgow giants famously reached the final of the competition in Seville back in 2022 but suffered heartbreak, losing to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties. This time, Ferguson has steered his side past Fenerbahce, setting up a quarter-final clash with Athletic Bilbao, with the final once again set to take place in Seville at the end of May.
Rangers Cash In on Europa League Success
Rangers have already reaped significant financial rewards from their European run. Football finance expert Dan Plumley revealed that the club earned £2.1 million for progressing past Fenerbahce, adding to their growing prize pool from the group stages and previous wins.
Speaking to Ibrox News, Plumley highlighted the potential windfall awaiting the club if they continue their journey:
“They’ve earned £2.1m for reaching the quarter-finals, which is a great boost alongside the revenue from group-stage performances and win bonuses.
“There’s also TV money to factor in, though we don’t have the full figures yet. If they reach the semi-finals, that’s another £3.5m; making the final is worth £5.8m, and winning the competition would add an extra £5m.
“If Rangers go all the way, they’d bank an additional £14.3m in prize money alone. It’s a fantastic opportunity both on and off the pitch, particularly with a potential takeover on the horizon.”
Jack Butland’s Heroics Propel Rangers Forward
Goalkeeper Jack Butland played a pivotal role in Rangers’ dramatic progression, making two crucial penalty saves to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
Despite earning a commanding 3-1 win in the first leg in Turkey, nerves set in after a 2-0 loss at Ibrox forced the tie to penalties. However, Butland’s heroics ensured Rangers advanced.
With a challenging two-legged tie against Athletic Bilbao up next, Rangers face stiff competition, but with major clubs still in the mix and lucrative prize money on the line, anything is possible.
