Jacob Wright, Kellen Fisher, and Onel Hernandez were all in action for their respective countries during a busy evening of international fixtures for Norwich City’s players.

Hernandez was the only one to start, featuring on the right wing as Cuba fell 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago in Gold Cup qualifiers. The 32-year-old played a key role early on as Los Leones took the lead through Yasniel Matos in the sixth minute. However, Isaiah Lee equalized soon after, and Steffen Yeates’ second-half strike sealed the win for Trinidad and Tobago. Cuba will look to overturn the deficit when they head to the Ato Boldon Stadium for the second leg on Tuesday, though they face an uphill task.

Fisher and Wright, meanwhile, contributed to a more positive result, helping England’s Elite League Squad (formerly the under-20s) secure a 1-1 draw with Portugal. Both players were introduced on the hour mark, with Manchester City loanee Wright replacing Nico O’Reilly and Fisher coming on for Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

Ex-Ipswich Town forward Dane Scarlett had given the Young Lions the lead, only for Portugal captain Diogo Monteiro to equalize in the 32nd minute. England’s next challenge is a friendly against Switzerland’s under-21s, scheduled to take place in Marbella on Monday evening.

Elsewhere, deadline-day signing Ruairi McConville was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland played out a draw with Switzerland’s senior side.
