Glasgow Rangers fans haven’t had much to cheer about this season. While wins against Fenerbahçe and Celtic before the international break offered brief moments of relief, it’s been a largely disappointing campaign overall.

However, the rise of Hamza Igamane has been one of the few bright spots, with the summer signing quickly adapting to life in Glasgow.

His impressive performances have caught the attention of several clubs, raising the possibility that he might leave Rangers sooner rather than later.

Why Hamza Igamane Could Leave Rangers

Igamane made the move from Morocco to Glasgow last summer for just £1.7 million, a transfer that raised some eyebrows at the time. Fast forward to March 2025, and the striker has netted 14 goals in 37 appearances for Rangers, including a remarkable last-minute winner against Celtic last week.

Standing similarly to Alfredo Morelos, Igamane offers more versatility, able to play as a number ten or even on the wing when required by the manager.

Recently, he was called up to the senior Morocco squad for upcoming matches against Niger and Tanzania, marking his debut in the former.

With Everton reportedly showing interest in the young forward, Rangers may be set to lose Igamane, potentially making him the club’s next big sale. If this transfer occurs in the summer, the incoming manager will face the challenge of finding a suitable replacement.

While funds may be available for the summer transfer window, the search for a long-term successor could lead to a promising solution in-house: Josh Gentles.

Rangers’ Next Igamane: Josh Gentles

Gentles has risen through the ranks of Rangers’ Auchenhowie academy and signed his first professional contract in February 2023. He made a name for himself by scoring the decisive goal in the Scottish Youth Cup final during the 2023/24 season, and has impressed in both the U18s and B teams over the past year.

One popular Rangers fan podcast mentioned Gentles was “making waves in the B team” at the age of 17 and predicted a “big future ahead” for the young striker.

In January, the 17-year-old joined Alloa Athletic on a six-month loan to gain valuable senior experience, a move that has proven to be a success. In just seven appearances for the League One side, Gentles has scored twice and provided an assist.

He found the net in his second match for Alloa, showing promise in his short time there. This loan spell is allowing him to experience the physicality of senior football, playing against opponents often much older and stronger, which will help build his confidence and development.

Though still early in his career, if Gentles continues to impress, a potential first-team call-up for Rangers could be just around the corner.
