Rangers Midfielder Nicolas Raskin Shines for Belgium in Nations League Survival

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin featured in consecutive matches for Belgium as Rudi Garcia’s squad successfully secured their place in UEFA Nations League A.

Belgium had a tough task ahead after a 3-1 defeat to Ukraine in the first leg on Thursday, where Raskin came off the bench for a brief 10-minute cameo. However, a dominant 3-0 victory in the second leg on Sunday, powered by a goal from Maxim De Cuyper and a Romelu Lukaku brace, ensured Belgium’s survival in the top tier.

Raskin played a much more prominent role in the second leg after being given a starting opportunity by Garcia. The Rangers ace seized the moment and remained on the pitch until the final moments.

Keith Jackson Praises Raskin’s Revival Under Barry Ferguson

Raskin has been in impressive form for Rangers since Barry Ferguson took over as interim manager in late February, highlighted by his goal and assist in the 3-2 victory over Celtic on 16 March.

The Daily Record’s Keith Jackson expressed his amazement at Raskin’s turnaround during Record Sport’s Hotline Live on 24 March, saying: “It’s remarkable considering he struggled to get into the starting lineup under Philippe Clement not too long ago.

“I think he’s made significant progress in a short period while working with Barry Ferguson. It’s surprising that Raskin couldn’t establish himself in Clement’s side.”

Rangers Rely on Raskin to Maintain Momentum

As Jackson noted, Raskin’s resurgence has been crucial for Rangers. His influence was evident in the Europa League, where he provided a vital assist in the 3-1 first-leg victory over Fenerbahce, helping Ferguson’s side progress to the quarter-finals.

Raskin further underlined his quality with Belgium, holding his own alongside stars like Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. However, Rangers will need the 24-year-old to maintain his top form as they look to salvage their domestic season and chase silverware.

With a Europa League quarter-final clash against Athletic Bilbao on the horizon, Ferguson will be counting on his international-caliber players, including Raskin, to deliver when it matters most.
