Rangers Poised to Secure Star Signing for £5.5m as 49ers Prepare for Ibrox Takeover
Rangers have the opportunity to sign a key player for just £5.5 million in the coming months, with prospective new owners, the 49ers Enterprises, fully aware of the situation.
49ers’ Plans for Rangers After Deal in Principle
The next few months promise to be eventful on and off the pitch at Ibrox, as interim manager Barry Ferguson aims to guide Rangers to the Europa League final in Bilbao. Ferguson, who has already overseen a memorable victory over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, is preparing for a quarter-final clash against Athletic Club.
The Scot has impressed in his caretaker role, having also led Rangers to a 3-2 win over Celtic before the international break. His older brother Derek Ferguson has hinted that Barry is eager to take the job on a permanent basis, with former Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch also backing him for the position.
Meanwhile, 49ers Enterprises have agreed a deal in principle to take over at Ibrox and hope to finalize the necessary paperwork before the 2025/26 season. Reports suggest that the 49ers are prepared to invest around £20-25 million in the summer transfer window once the takeover is complete.
Rangers Can Secure Vaclav Cerny for £5.5m Before Deadline

One of the first moves under the new ownership could be making Vaclav Cerny’s loan from Wolfsburg a permanent transfer. Initial reports suggested that a permanent deal could cost Rangers around £8 million, but a recent update from reliable journalist Keith Jackson of The Daily Record has revealed that the fee is actually set at £5.5 million.
The option to sign Cerny for this price was included in the loan agreement that brought him to Ibrox, but Rangers must act before the end of May to trigger the clause.
The 49ers are aware of the urgency surrounding Cerny’s situation, particularly with the winger attracting interest from clubs across Europe due to his strong performances in Scotland.
If Rangers fail to meet the £5.5 million deadline, Cerny’s price tag is expected to exceed £11 million, making the current option seem like an obvious decision for the club. Encouragingly for Rangers, Cerny appears keen on staying at Ibrox.
When asked about his future, the 27-year-old said: “I definitely do [want to stay]. But there are so many aspects that I can’t control. All I can do is be the best I can and keep up my form and numbers.”
