Cerny angered the home crowd by squirting water at Celtic fans after Hamza Igamane’s late goal.

A furious Brendan Rodgers criticized Vaclav Cerny for his excessive celebrations following Rangers’ dramatic derby-day winner. The incident, dubbed ‘watergate,’ has dominated the aftermath of Rangers’ victory, with TV cameras capturing Cerny spraying water toward the Celtic Park crowd after Igamane’s strike.

The home supporters reacted angrily, prompting police and security to intervene. Cerny is now under investigation by both the SFA and police, though the winger dismissed the backlash as “absurd” during the international break.

Rangers boss Barry Ferguson defended his players’ right to celebrate but admitted the Czech winger had gotten “overexcited.”

However, Rodgers strongly disapproved of Cerny’s actions, stating: “I heard what happened, and you simply can’t do that. I understand the joy of winning, and Rangers players have every right to celebrate with their fans.

“But coming to Celtic Park or Ibrox and winning a match of that magnitude deserves celebration – just not in that manner.

“It’s disrespectful if a player runs along the touchline and squirts water into a supporter’s face. I certainly wouldn’t want my players behaving that way.

“There’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed. It’s a highly emotional fixture, and having fans back adds to the intensity, but in a game like this, crossing that line can lead to serious consequences.”
