Leicester City are reportedly considering Liam Rosenior as a potential successor to Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman is under mounting pressure following a poor run of Premier League form that has left the Foxes nine points adrift of safety with nine games remaining.

Van Nistelrooy took charge in December after a brief stint as Manchester Unitedā€™s caretaker manager. Despite winning his first game against West Ham, Leicester have since collected just four points from 15 matches.

Rosenior, who guided Hull City to a seventh-place finish in the Championship last season, is now managing Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. The 40-year-old has led his team to a position just outside the European qualification spots, already surpassing the clubā€™s points tally from last season.

According to Lā€™Equipe (via Derby Telegraph), both Leicester and Southampton have been monitoring Roseniorā€™s progress. However, there is no immediate urgency unless either club suffers relegation. Southampton, under Ivan Juric, are almost certain to go down, with reports suggesting the Croatian will be dismissed at the end of the campaign.

Despite Leicesterā€™s struggles, the report indicates that Van Nistelrooyā€™s position remains secure while survival is still mathematically possible. However, his future at the King Power Stadium beyond this season remains uncertain.

Speaking to AFP (via GFFN), Rosenior expressed optimism about Strasbourgā€™s chances of securing European football. The club, which won the Intertoto Cup in the 1990s, has had only one European campaign in the past 19 years, reaching the Europa League play-off round in 2019-20.

ā€œWhy not?ā€ Rosenior said. ā€œWe are in football to dream. I will never stop my players from dreaming. Itā€™s not arrogance, but we are only four points off third place with eight games to go. Of course, itā€™s possible!ā€

Leicester, who have a break due to the FA Cup quarter-finals, face a tough midweek fixture away to Manchester City. They were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in their last outing, but Van Nistelrooy remains determined to fight for survival.

“If you look at all the stats, the game was very even,” he told Match of the Day after the defeat to United. “Scoring goals wins you points.

“We can’t and we won’t give upā€”we will fight until the end. As long as survival is still mathematically possible, we keep going. We want to prove that we can score goals, keep clean sheets, and pick up points at this level.”
