Leeds United supporters are currently focused on their team’s push for Premier League promotion, but Crysencio Summerville has now given them something else to consider.

Daniel Farke’s squad remains in the thick of the Championship battle despite a frustrating March, which has seen them secure just one win, alongside two draws and a defeat.

Sheffield United have taken the top spot after a convincing victory over Frank Lampard’s Coventry City, piling the pressure back onto Leeds. However, with their fate still in their own hands, the Whites don’t need to be distracted by Burnley’s results.

That said, a former player still seems to have Leeds on his mind, as Summerville has made some eye-catching remarks about his time at Elland Road.

Crysencio Summerville Criticizes Leeds United Fans Over Lack of Appreciation

Summerville departed Leeds last summer in a £25 million-plus add-ons deal to Premier League side West Ham United.

His time in London hasn’t been smooth sailing, with the winger managing just one goal and two assists in 22 appearances while also dealing with injury setbacks.

Now, some of his frustrations at West Ham appear to have spilled over, with Leeds fans bearing the brunt of his comments. During a Q&A on West Ham’s official website, he was asked about the meaning behind his goal celebration.

Summerville responded:

“I felt that people were sleeping on me [at Leeds United] because I thought it was my time last season. I scored many goals, but people still didn’t appreciate it, and that’s why I did the celebration. I kept it because kids and people loved it, so now I’m just doing it.”

Summerville’s Criticism Seems Odd

Given that Summerville still keeps his Leeds United memorabilia by his TV, his comments come as a bit of a surprise.

Leeds fans have shown no bitterness since his departure and even celebrated his goal against Manchester United on social media.

What makes his remarks even stranger is what he previously said about the club at the PFA awards last year:

“They took good care of me. I came as a little boy, 18 years old. I’m happy with what happened there; it helped me a lot. But happy to be in the Premier League with West Ham.”
